How to Configure an HTTP/HTTPS Proxy in AdsPower
Add a HighProxies HTTP proxy to AdsPower, test the connection and confirm that the browser profile is using the assigned proxy IP address.
Before You Start
You need an active HighProxies service and its connection details. Open the proxy control panel and copy the proxy host, port and authentication information exactly as displayed.
Collect your proxy details
- Proxy IP address or hostname
- Proxy port
- Username and password, when using credential authentication
- Your current public IP, when using IP authentication
Open AdsPower
Launch AdsPower and sign in. You can add the proxy while creating a browser profile or save it first from the proxy-management section.
Use the assigned settings: select HTTP and copy the assigned host, port and authentication details exactly. The proxy will fail when HTTPS is selected as the proxy type.
Select HTTP as the Proxy Type
HighProxies private proxies use the HTTP proxy type in AdsPower. Select HTTP even when the browser profile will open HTTPS websites.
Proxy connection type
Select HTTP in AdsPower. This is the protocol used between AdsPower and the HighProxies proxy server.
Websites you can open
The HTTP proxy can still open HTTPS websites securely through the HTTP CONNECT method. You do not need to select HTTPS as the proxy type.
Important: selecting HTTPS in AdsPower will fail because this service is provided as an HTTP proxy. HTTPS describes the destination website, not the proxy connection type.
Add a New Proxy in AdsPower
- Open AdsPower.
- Select Proxies from the left-hand menu, or create a new browser profile.
- Select Add Proxy or Custom Proxy.
- Select HTTP as the proxy protocol.
Enter the HTTP Proxy Settings
Enter each value in its matching AdsPower field. Do not add http:// before the IP address unless the specific AdsPower field asks for a complete proxy URL.
| AdsPower field | Value to enter |
|---|---|
| Proxy Type | HTTP |
| Host / IP | YOUR_PROXY_IP |
| Port | YOUR_PROXY_PORT |
| Proxy Username | YOUR_USERNAME, or leave empty when using IP authentication |
| Proxy Password | YOUR_PASSWORD, or leave empty when using IP authentication |
| Remark | Use a clear label such as HighProxies-US-HTTP |
Example only: if the proxy is supplied as 192.0.2.10:21200, enter 192.0.2.10 in the host field and 21200 in the port field.
Use one authentication method: enter the assigned username and password, or authorise your current public IP in the control panel. Do not combine incomplete credentials with IP authentication.
Check and Save the Proxy
Select Check Proxy in AdsPower. A successful test should display an external IP address and location. Confirm that the result matches the proxy you ordered, then save the configuration.
Successful result: AdsPower reports that the proxy is reachable and shows the assigned proxy IP instead of your normal internet connection IP.
Test the HTTP proxy with cURL
Replace the placeholders with your assigned credentials. Keep the proxy URL prefix as http://, even though the destination address uses HTTPS:
curl --proxy 'http://YOUR_USERNAME:YOUR_PASSWORD@YOUR_PROXY_IP:YOUR_PROXY_PORT' https://api.ipify.org
A response containing the assigned proxy IP confirms that the proxy accepted the connection and reached the IP-check endpoint.
Assign the Proxy and Verify the Browser Profile
- Create a new AdsPower browser profile or edit an existing profile.
- Select the saved HTTP proxy in the profile settings.
- Save and launch the profile.
- Open an IP-checking website inside the AdsPower profile.
- Confirm that the displayed IP address and country match the assigned proxy.
Verify the proxy IP inside the profile
After launching the profile, open an IP-checking website. The reported address and location should match the assigned HighProxies endpoint.
Opening an IP-checking website outside AdsPower tests your normal browser connection. Always run the final check inside the profile that has the proxy assigned.
What to Check When the Proxy Does Not Work
Connection or timeout error
- Confirm that HTTP is selected as the proxy type
- Recheck the proxy IP and port
- Remove any protocol prefix from the host field
- Check your local firewall, antivirus or network restrictions
- Test the same proxy with cURL
- Try another internet connection when possible
407 authentication error
- Copy the username and password again
- Remove accidental spaces before or after credentials
- Confirm that the proxy service is active
- When using IP authentication, authorise your current public IP
- Update AdsPower if the proxy was recently replaced
Proxy check passes but profile fails
- Confirm that the saved proxy is assigned to the correct profile
- Close and relaunch the browser profile
- Check whether a browser extension is changing network settings
- Verify the IP from inside the AdsPower profile
Wrong country or IP displayed
- Confirm that the selected proxy matches the ordered location
- Make sure another proxy or VPN is not active on the computer
- Clear the old proxy selection from the profile
- Repeat the AdsPower proxy check before saving
Still not working? Send support the proxy IP and port, your current public IP, a screenshot of the AdsPower proxy settings and the complete error message. Never expose the full proxy password in a public screenshot or ticket.
AdsPower HTTP Proxy Questions
Can an HTTP proxy open HTTPS websites?
Yes. A standard HTTP proxy can carry HTTPS website traffic using the HTTP CONNECT method. Keep the proxy type set to HTTP.
Should I enter the IP and port in the same field?
Use the fields shown by your AdsPower version. When separate host and port fields are available, enter the IP address in the host field and the numeric port in the port field.
Can I use IP authentication instead of a username and password?
Yes, when your proxy service supports it. Authorise your current public IP in the HighProxies control panel, then leave the username and password fields empty.
Why does AdsPower return a 407 error?
HTTP status 407 means that the proxy did not accept the supplied authentication. Recheck the username and password, or confirm that your current public IP is authorised.
Can I use a SOCKS5 proxy instead?
Yes. Select SOCKS5 and use credentials from a SOCKS5-compatible service. Follow the separate AdsPower SOCKS5 proxy setup guide for the correct configuration.
Why does the launched profile still show my normal IP?
The proxy may not be assigned to the profile, the saved configuration may be outdated or the IP test may have been opened outside AdsPower. Recheck the profile settings and launch it again.
Need an HTTP Proxy for AdsPower?
Choose a dedicated HighProxies HTTP proxy, copy the assigned connection details and add them to your AdsPower browser profile.
